This platform attempts to reverse the national conversation about the “crisis in the humanities” by changing what we think the humanities are for. With case studies and the democratic potential of higher education, Dr. Fanuzzi discusses how a new generation of scholars, students and activists are forging a stronger link between the humanities practical application and the social problems of our time.

Dr. Robert Fanuzzi is Associate Provost and Director of Civic Engagement and Public Programs for St. John’s University Staten Island campus. A scholar of the US civil rights struggle and professor of American Studies, Dr. Fanuzzi participates in local and national efforts to transform higher education through campus community partnerships. He is also former chair of the New York City Community Board presenting his work on food justice and neighborhood sustainability to the Ethical Culture Society of Westchester.
