NAACP White Plains-Greenburgh Branch will host an HR-40 Reparations and Remedies Community Act Discussion on Tuesday 9/19/23 at the Greenburgh Public Library.

NAACP White Plains-Greenburgh Branch is proud to announce its upcoming event to foster community dialogue on the HR-40 Reparations and Remedies Community Act. The event will take place on Tuesday, September 19, from 6:30 pm-8:00 pm at the Greenburgh Public Library located at 300 Tarrytown Road, Elmsford, NY 10523.

This informative session aims to shed light on the HR-40 legislation, which focuses on reparations for historical injustices and systemic racism in the United States. The event will feature distinguished speakers who will provide valuable insights into this crucial topic.

L. Joy Williams noted political strategist, creator and host of #SundayCivics which airs on SiriusXM Urban View, and Legislative Director of the NAACP New York State Conference. Williams, known for her tireless advocacy for civil rights, will provide a comprehensive overview of the HR-40 legislation and its potential impact on marginalized communities and will bring her expertise to the discussion. Additionally, Wiliams serves at the President of the famed Brooklyn Branch of the NAACP.

Lisa Maria Nero, MPA, a doctoral student at LIU, will share her expertise as she presents her dissertation on HR-40 reparations, specifically examining the question of whether reparations can heal or repeal systemic injustices. Nero’s valuable research offers an academic perspective that will deepen our understanding of the topic. Nero works as a union advocate for #MeToWorkersComp and the current President of the Westchester Black Woman’s Political Caucus Greenburgh White Plains Chapter.

The event promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking discussion that encourages community members to participate actively. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, share their perspectives, and engage in meaningful conversations.

All interested community members are invited to attend this enlightening event at the Greenburgh Public Library. We encourage participants to arrive early due to limited seating availability. The library staff will ensure a safe and inclusive environment.
