Susan Feifer
Susan Feifer

For over 40 years Susan Feifer has been an advocate for creating employment opportunities for underserved populations.  She has a long track record of developing training and placement programs for those who have been incarcerated or at risk of incarceration. She has developed partnership programs between not for profit- and profit-making entities to open doors for those with a legal history.

Susan was the long-serving Director of Vocational Services for The Rehabilitation Institute (TRI), the largest provider of vocational evaluation and training on Long Island.  Under her leadership TRI honed its mission statement that served as a call for action— “We believe in the power of work.”  Susan made this mission a reality by obtaining licensure as a proprietary business and trade school.  The school advanced distinct curriculums that lead to certifications in specific vocations such as desktop publishing, graphic arts, hospitality, and building maintenance.  Susan pursued this designation so that the individuals could compete for employment opportunities at a wage level that might not otherwise be offered to them.

After retiring from full-time work almost two years ago Susan now works as a Vocational Consultant providing services to individuals with a history of involvement in the justice system up to and including those with felony convictions.

Susan holds a master’s degree in social work from Hunter College and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  In addition to serving on the Board of several local community agencies, Susan has been a field instructor for local colleges and universities overseeing the field placements of social work and rehabilitation graduate students.
