Aging Well

by Eric Albert

My friend’s adorable grandson likes to brag that he is “four going on five.” A clear acknowledgement, a gleeful expectation of aging. But as the years go by, that happy anticipation often becomes far less pleasant. Indeed, aging sometimes fills us with discomfort, and even dread. To many, aging can be a terrifying “knocking on the door.”

In a culture that prizes youth, speed, and productivity, growing older can feel like a gradual loss of visibility and value.

An ethical perspective can challenge that narrative. It’s working for me. I choose to consider not just how long I’m going to live, but how to cherish the inherent dignity of life at every stage.
