Welcoming or Naming Ceremonies
Bart Worden has been Leader for the Ethical Culture Society of Westchester since 1998. He delivers addresses for Sunday meetings, develops programs for the society, performs community outreach, officiates at ceremonies, and offers pastoral counseling. He also leads us in song, guitar in hand, almost every Sunday. He is active within the parent body for Ethical Societies, the American Ethical Union, where he currently serves as Executive Director.
Bart’s wife, Ruthanne, first introduced him to ECSW, and they have long been active participants there; their sons are ECSW Sunday School graduates.
Bart graduated from Hope College with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy of Religion in 1978. After a stint as a luthier’s apprentice he began to work as a Therapy Aide in a state psychiatric hospital in New Jersey. In 1983 he obtained a masters degree in social work from N.Y.U. and then served as a social worker and psychotherapist for adults with psychiatric disabilities. For nine years he served as Director of The Guidance Center’s Rochelle House day treatment program.
In 1995 applied for Leadership Training with the American Ethical Union, graduating from the Humanist Institute in New York City in 1997. During the last two years of his training he worked as a leader-intern at the New York Society for Ethical Culture in Manhattan.
