Recent events have called attention to the interactions between police officers and the communities they are sworn to protect, and many questions have been raised about police conduct in relation to people of color. The shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri has garnered national attention and resulted in protests across the country. There have been similar events in Westchester County in recent years, and while mass protests have not erupted, there have been concerted efforts to bring about reform in the practices of local law enforcement officers. This address explores the uneven application of law enforcement in our communities and the current state of local reform efforts,
