Resistance is useful when we’re trying to push back at a force that would make life worse. Resisting implies that the status quo is working for us, for others. But what if we want to make life better than it has been? What if instead of defending the world as we know it, what we really want is a new world? When some forces in the wider culture are trying to move us in directions we see as dangerous or toxic for human thriving, how do we not just stand our ground, but move in other directions?

Jone Johnson Lewis, Leader of the Riverdale-Yonkers Society, will reflect on how we resist mere resistance, and instead become doulas for the birthing of a new world of human flourishing.
