The theme for the MLK Day of Deeds Junior Ethics Sunday School class this year was “Relating to Seniors”. The children discussed who the important older adults were in their lives, and what they enjoyed doing together with them. We then read a book called The Lemon Sisters by Andrea Cheng. This story sensitively describes some of the struggles and joys of aging. Our project for the day was to make minestrone “soup in a jar”. We were fortunate in that the Senior Ethics class attendees wanted to join us in this endeavor. The older girls were so helpful in assisting the younger children to measure the assortment of dried ingredients into the jars that will eventually become soup! The “soup jars” will be brought to older ECSW members who are having difficulty at- tending meetings and on pastoral calls that Bart makes, as he sees appropriate. We hope the soup will be delicious, and that those individuals receiving it will feel thought of and cared about by us.
